People who are serious about photography sometimes create challenges for themselves in order to develop their "eye". For example, professional photographer Jim Brandenberg decided for 90 days to take only picture per day. The result was an amazing collection I have on my coffee table - Chased by the Light.
A recent comment by researcher Jakob Nielson is likely to generate a good deal of discussion among bloggers (the MacWorld version, Nielson post) and will likely generate some studies from graduate students. The topic of whether a reader benefits equally from processing content presented as a book, on a Kindle, or on an iPad certainly [...]

One of my goals for ISTE10 was to locate an Android “slatet/tablet” I could purchase and compare with Cindy’s iPad. I did not see much, but did locate the Entourage Edge ( see image). The Edge looks something like a Kindle and an iPad joined together with duct tape.
The connection between online and social is difficult to figure out. We are clearly familiar with the value of face to face. Many of us just spent a substantial amount of money to meet with like-minded ISTE folks in Denver. There are unique opportunities in face to face encounters - more cues, greater efficiency. I can also understand the opportunities in online connections. Sometimes face to face is not practical and sometimes online offers a more controlled setting that encourages the shy to speak.
In 2004, I started a personal NECC (ISTE) tradition. I called it the OutSide Aisle Vendor Award and it was intended to recognize one of the smaller businesses or organizations that offered their product or service from the outside aisle. Several weeks ago at St. Paul's, we sang "Gather Us In." Now, as with many things, it takes several hearings before it stands out so I have probably heard this hymn before. It grabbed my attention right off the bat with the place reference. It describes so much of what I have been trying to articulate about Philip Sheldrake's work Spaces for the Sacred that welcomes the periphery into the whole...the marginalized and broken, the ambiguous and forgotten people and memories are brought out into the Eucharist.
In Laundry Liturgy and Women's work, Kathleen Norris reflects on the nature of the mundane tasks and the potential for sacramental inbreaking. Tonight as I did the dishes alone in our hot kitchen, something sparked my memories of working at Inspiration Hills. For three summers (1995, 1996, 2000) I worked as grounds crew, lifeguard, and sometimes reluctant counselor. I would spend glorious hours in the sun, evenings worshipping with new friends, late night games, and lots of laughing.
