Questions about "UND Downtown"

November 22, 2008 by Sal Atticum

President Kelley's mention of a UND campus in downtown Grand Forks someday came as a surprise to me. I have some questions.

Where will such a campus go?

Will it be cost-efficient and house itself in existing structures, or will it have to find space to build?

Will it actually be "downtown" or will it be "close enough" and extend downtown? Will they buy out the train yard and use that space?

What will such a campus offer to UND students that they cannot get presently? Is there something special about the location, that it is in proximity to businesses that will be part of the learning experience, or is it some deal with the GFK city government to get more student money into the downtown area and a more "college town" atmosphere?
