Tech Tuesday: Episode 10

This week in Tech Tuesday we will be covering a great time saving feature of Firefox that is not very well known. If you don't know what Firefox is we would encourage you to head over and read Tech Tuesday: Episode 5, which is all about Firefox 3.

Searching the web or your favorite website is a common activity that you likely do every day that you are online, but you likely get sick of the same old process... Go to the website (IE: www.yahoo.com or www.wikipedia.org), find the search box, and finally type in the term you want to find and your off. Well, why not skip most of those steps and speed up your web searching with an feature built right into Firefox?

Tech Tuesday: Episode 9

Do you ever get sick of logging into multiple websites to check this account or that account and you wish there was an easier way to keep track of everything?

Now there is. This week in tech I will introduce you to Pageonce and how it can save you time and aggravation.

Pageonce

Pageonce, a self described internet assistant is essentially just that. While Pageonce wont be able to schedule meetings for you or do your laundry it can make your effort to keep up with multiple online accounts much easier. No longer will you have to go to multiple websites to check how many frequent flier miles you have or what recent transactions have posted to your credit card, you can now view all of these and much more from one website.

You may or may not remember but in Tech Tuesday: Episode 6 I mentioned the software application Miro.

Well being as I have been using it more and more I thought I would write a bit more about it.

Miro

In case you missed it last time Miro is software that will allow you to "subscribe" to various channels across the internet and bring videos right to your computer. These videos range from full length prime time TV episodes to amateur TV content to videos from around the world.

The nice thing about Miro is that you can "subscribe" to just about anything at no cost. Now while the quality of content varies there are some great "shows" in many categories.

This week in tech we will be looking at ways to recover lost files.

Do you think that since you emptied your recycle bin you cannot get those files back?... think again. Below is a list of some free ways to recover those files.

Restoration

Restoration is a freeware application that makes recovering files easy. All you have to do is download the file, unzip it, and double click on Restoration.exe and you are well on your way to recovering files (no need to install).

I have personally used this product and it worked well.

Tech Tuesday: Episode 6

Nearly everyone has a favorite TV show or type of show, but not everyone is able to watch them on TV for various reasons. Well the internet once again has our back allowing us to watch many TV shows at our convenience.

Within this article I outline several websites that host current and old TV shows, these website vary from official network websites to websites that have official partnerships with those that own the content. While there is not one website that offers every show you may want, hopefully this listing will cover most of your TV needs.

3rd Party Websites

Hulu
Hulu offers videos from over 50 content providers including NBC, MGM, and Warner Bros.
While Hulu does offer some full length TV episodes, much of its content is made up of video clips.

Veoh
Veoh is another service that offers TV content, though like Hulu most of its offerings are clips as opposed to full length episodes. It should be noted that much of the content on the site is actually linked from other sites.

Joost
Joost is similar to the other sites listed, but offers shows not available on the other sites. Of note Joost "requires" you to download their player to watch the videos. Channels can be created and Joost is a bit more focused on tying "social networking" to the whole online TV thing.

Tech Tuesday: Episode 1

Being as this is the first "episode" of the weekly Tech Tuesday I thought I would give you a little background info before I start blabbing about Tech.

Every Tuesday I will post a new article about technology, said articles will range from software to computers to GPS to just about anything you can think of. If you want an article about something in particular let me know and I can work on one.

About me: I am not a computer science major or anything related, I simply have an interest in technology. I like to mess around with technology, read tech-related magazines, and build websites etc. Though, I do not come off too geeky. Anyway, enough with the intro .. onto the article!

Extending Firefox

So if you have not heard of Firefox, you really need to read up on it, it makes IE look rather sad.

Anyway, while the standard installation is sweet and all you really need to add some extensions to make your browsing experience all the more fun...
