Fixing the Spam Problem

September 4, 2008 by Sal Atticum

If you've been following Campus Dakota for a while now, you may have noticed that we've been periodically inundated with automated spam, most recently trying to sell Viagra, Cialis, and other enhancement products in multiple languages. Thankfully, we had some time to work on this problem earlier this week, and there should be no more of this type of thing.

While comment spam is a problem throughout the Internet, we want to fight it here at Campus Dakota where we can. If you see something that looks like spam on the message board, please let someone know by clicking the "Report to moderator" link at the bottom right of the post. This goes for especially offensive posts from guests and registered members as well: while we can't guarantee that we'll remove the offensive material, you can be sure that we'll take a look and act accordingly. You can also start a topic in Feedback, Suggestions, & Support.

Don't let the anti-spam features scare you off though: If you want to post something random, go for it! If you want to write nonsense, feel free. Student organization representatives, feel free to post up your events, news, and activity. Even if you just want to report that you are giving a fire-eating demonstration outside the dining hall tonight and have no affiliation with an organization whatsoever, post it up.

We're continuing to work on improving the features of Campus Dakota--if you see something that could be better, let us know! Start a new topic in Feedback, Suggestions, & Support, send a PM to one of the moderators, or send an email to webmaster@campusdakota.com. It's just like class: if you have a question, you can bet that ten other people have the same question but are afraid to ask.
