What is Campus Dakota? What is its purpose?
The purpose of Campus Dakota is to promote open communication among college students in North and South Dakota, in a setting where governing universities have no oversight, financial or otherwise. Campus Dakota is run by current students from multiple colleges and universities who believe that open communication among students throughout the states, as well as among faculty and others with a vested interest in the welfare of the students, is of paramount importance for changing our universities for the better.
Campus Dakota is here to serve the students, and so it is difficult to pinpoint a series of specific, objective goals for the website. However, we hope that if students think that something is important, through open discussion and the conclusions reached by those discussions, things can be accomplished to improve the quality of life for every student in North and South Dakota.
Campus Dakota supports any and all efforts to help North and South Dakota college students communicate in a better way about the colleges and universities we deal with on a daily basis and about the wider world of which we are a part. We are students who wish to help students access information, share resources, and stand up for what they believe is right, openly and at no cost.
Our Mission, Vision, and Core Values and Beliefs
Mission Statement:
To promote open communication among college students in North and South Dakota, in a setting where governing universities have no oversight, financial or otherwise, for the purpose of improving the quality of life for all students.
Vision Statement:
Campus Dakota will bring students from across the states of North and South Dakota together to create change for the better. We will provide an avenue of discussion that is secure from censorship and will uphold the freedom of students to question their universities, their professors, and each other. We will support students to the fullest extent we are able. Core Values and Beliefs: Open Communication We believe that open communication is essential to the collegiate experience. As such, we promote communication between students as well as communication among students, faculty and their respective institutions. We believe that students should be able to speak freely without the concern of censorship. Free Flow of Ideas We believe that many minds are better than one. This is why we created several tools that allow students to share their ideas with others in a collaborative atmosphere that will promote growth. We believe that all ideas should be considered and not simply written off. Student Support We believe in the student. It is for this reason that we strive to promote what students believe in and what change they want to see. We will work for the best interest of the students. Equality We believe that all students are equal. As such we will work to promote all legal student efforts and organizations. We will treat all of our members with dignity and respect and we expect the same from our community.

What Can I Do to Make Campus Dakota Better?
Participate! The best thing you can do for Campus Dakota is to use it as a resource. Use it to talk to your friends, find new friends, and learn new things. If you want you can submit articles to get published on the front page of the site. If you really want to help out, tell people, mention it to your friends. Get the word out there that Campus Dakota is the place to be.
But I can discuss things in Facebook groups!
Yes you can, but sometimes topics are hard to follow. We all enjoy Facebook as a social networking tool, but as a message board it has weaknesses such as inability to moderate specific posts, split topics, announce all replies to the topic, or see all of your or someone else's previous posts easily. The Campus Dakota message board is a full-featured message board, which means that the focus is on being able to find the information you want as quickly as possible. Want to see a list of topics you've posted in? Look in your subscription folder. Want to see a list of your old posts? You can do that too. Want to search and see if a particular person has said anything about a topic you're interested in? It's easy. Facebook is great for ephemeral conversation ("Love your new hair," "Dude, I'm so drunk right now"), but for real discussion you need a real message board.
How do I make those fancy things happen in my posts?
Bulletin Board Code (BBCode) is a standardized syntax similar to the HTML that makes up web pages. Unlike HTML, it is only recognized within a forum system that supports it like we have at Campus Dakota. All of the buttons you can use to format your posts use BBCode to do so. If you would like to know some more advanced formatting tricks, this page is a good place to start.
