Campus Dakota: Bringing you news from across two states

March 31, 2008 by Sal Atticum

Campus Dakota has just initiated a new feature, the Student Blogs and News!

Student Blogs and News utilizes RSS feeds from various student and related blogs we've managed to track down. "RSS," if you don't know, stands for "Really Simple Syndication." What this means is that when a blog or other RSS-enabled website is updated, a new file is created that has a short summary--the RSS "feed". Programs that read RSS feeds check them on a set schedule and let you (the user) know when something new has been posted--meaning that you don't have to surf through all of the blogs you read eight times a day (although this is a great way to procrastinate).

It's that time again... Tech Tuesday. This week I will show you some quick and easy ways to save money on computer software. What easy ways are there? Well by using free software. You may be thinking free means lesser quality but that couldn't be further from the truth. It has been argued that many times the freeware option is better then one you could pay for.

In this article we will be covering a slew of applications from audio tools to Office Programs to instant messaging programs and more.

Music Monday: Raising Sand

March 17, 2008 by Sal Atticum

I hate to fall into the trap of calling an album “awesome” and expecting everybody to agree, but Raising Sand by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss is that cool. Yes, that Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin Fame, and that Alison Krauss of bluegrass and country hits. If you’re expecting some sort of cross between screaming and banjos, you’re way off. This album stands alone, and you would never know these two international greats were the ones singing if you didn’t already know.

Music Monday: My New Music

March 10, 2008 by Sal Atticum

I'd like to send a call out to COLLEGE BANDS at any of the Campus Dakota schools (that means you, if you go to school in North or South Dakota)! I'm interested in knowing who you are and what kind of music you play, and maybe even an interview. So drop me a comment if you are part of some sort of musical entertainment apparatus.

This week's Music Monday will be brief, mostly because I'm flat-out busy from now until forever. I present to you, in a Music Monday Classic, my recent new albums:

We Are Campus Dakota!

March 6, 2008 by pmp6nl

Hello and Welcome to Campus Dakota!

We are a group of students in the Dakotas that saw a need that had to be filled. The need for students to have a place where they could share their opinions, ideas, hopes, and aspirations, not only for their lives but for their schools.

That is why we created Campus Dakota.

Campus Dakota's Purpose

The purpose of Campus Dakota is to promote open communication among college students in North and South Dakota, in a setting where governing universities have no oversight, financial or otherwise. Campus Dakota is run by current students from multiple colleges and universities who believe that open communication among students throughout the states, as well as among faculty and others with a vested interest in the welfare of the students, is of paramount importance for changing our universities for the better...

Tech Tuesday: Episode 1

March 4, 2008 by pmp6nl

Being as this is the first "episode" of the weekly Tech Tuesday I thought I would give you a little background info before I start blabbing about Tech.

Every Tuesday I will post a new article about technology, said articles will range from software to computers to GPS to just about anything you can think of. If you want an article about something in particular let me know and I can work on one.

About me: I am not a computer science major or anything related, I simply have an interest in technology. I like to mess around with technology, read tech-related magazines, and build websites etc. Though, I do not come off too geeky. Anyway, enough with the intro .. onto the article!

Extending Firefox

So if you have not heard of Firefox, you really need to read up on it, it makes IE look rather sad.

Anyway, while the standard installation is sweet and all you really need to add some extensions to make your browsing experience all the more fun...
